Privacy
TownValet sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, images or trackers. Everything on these pages is served from this site. Links to city websites and data portals take you to those sites, which have their own policies.
Your address stays on your device
Address lookups happen in your browser. When you type an address, the page works out the first two letters of the street name and downloads this site’s list of streets starting with those letters (the same file for everyone who types a street beginning with, say, “MA”). The house number and the rest of the street name are matched on your device and are never sent to this site or to anyone else. We do not use any geocoding service.
“Use my location” asks your browser for your position only when you press the button. The coordinates are compared with the city’s zone map inside the page and are never sent anywhere. Your browser will ask your permission first.
Calendar files (.ics) are generated inside the page and saved straight to your device.
Stored in your browser
Only if you tick “Remember on this device”: the address you looked up and its collection zones, saved in this browser’s local storage for that city, so the page shows your schedule next time. It never leaves your device, is not a cookie, and unticking the box deletes it. You can also clear it in your browser settings at any time.
If this ever changes, for example if advertising or affiliate links are added, this page will say so before it happens.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the server keeps a log of requests: the time, the page requested, the referring page, the browser’s user-agent string, and a shortened network address (the last part of the IP address is removed before anything is written, so the log cannot point to one connection). The page requested may include the two-letter street-index file described above, never an address. The log is used only to count visits and to stop abuse, is never shared or sold, and is deleted after 30 days. The legal basis under the GDPR is legitimate interest in running and securing the site.
The hosting proxy in front of this site (measured 2026-10-26): successful requests are not logged there. Requests that fail at the proxy are recorded with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent, with cookies and authorization headers redacted, and are currently kept until the proxy is restarted. A retention limit for those records is under review.
